In 1967, Joan Miró undertook an ambitious project: to illustrate his own poem *The Lizard with Golden Feathers* through eighteen large-scale color lithographs. The edition was to be published in Paris, but during the process, a major technical incident destroyed the plates.
The complete edition was therefore canceled, and no regular print run was ever produced.
Only a few test or artist’s proofs that had already been printed were saved from destruction. A small number remain today—about 80 copies spread across different plates, according to Mourlot.
Finally, four years later, Miró produced a new series of lithographs, with different compositions, to accompany a final version of *The Lizard with Golden Feathers*, which was published successfully this time.
