Ladislas Kijno, a major artist in the Informal Art movement, profoundly shaped the 20th-century art scene with his innovative vision and bold creative approach. Informal painting is characterized by a desire to break away from the influence of Cubism and Surrealism, as well as their pictorial principles such as form, tonal harmony, balance, proportions, unified composition, and centralized structuring. As a result, this style of painting is often deconstructed, with works frequently created in the moment and incorporating elements of improvisation. Born in 1921 in Warsaw, Poland, Kijno quickly established himself as one of the iconic figures of this artistic movement, which pushed the traditional boundaries of painting, thereby liberating artistic expression from any formal constraints. Through his work, Kijno explored the edges of abstraction, merging emotion and spontaneity to create works of profound originality. His commitment to Informal Art helped redefine the nature of visual art while sparking passionate debates about the meaning and scope of abstraction in contemporary art.
