Straddling the realms of dream, music, and theater, *Pantomime* unfolds the entirety of Chagall’s ethereal universe: a blue violinist, a companion animal figure, fruits and foliage—all like notes in a dreamlike score. Here, the image does not describe—it listens. Chagall’s name becomes a motif, a burst of sound at the heart of the scene, while the lines seem to be blown rather than drawn.
In this work, man, animal, instrument, color, and word coexist without hierarchy, in an inner theater where everything vibrates, everything levitates.
